All that Remains
02:38
|
|||
I shaved the beard that snuck up on me,
I cut my hair as you can see,
I bought an outfit, cleaned out my wallet
To be the best that I can be.
The lights are yellow, the air is dry,
It cried its eyes out yesterday,
The trees are green, the birds are high,
And I have nothing left to say.
Any more would be too much,
Any less would be too plain.
Work becomes art when all that remains
Is all that can’t be taken away.
When they’re not working day-long shifts,
Everyone is getting hitched,
It’s been years since I’ve seen Rich,
He was always such a good friend.
But that leaves us, simple as that,
The way it was meant to be.
Any more would be too much,
Any less would be too plain.
Work becomes art when all that remains
Is all that can’t be taken away.
Work becomes art when all that remains
Is all that can’t be taken away.
Work becomes art when all that remains
Is all that can’t be taken away.

Prairie Burning
04:14
|
|||
When everything is nothing and that’s all there is,
When they’ve cut down the tree where you shared your first kiss,
When all the stores are failing and the dorms are being raised,
The roads are all closed, and you can’t recognize this place.
When the parks are made of plastic and kids all have kids,
When the corn is receding and the concrete’s creepin' in,
The windmills around us are catching all the wind,
The power is gone and taken elsewhere to be lit.
Where are you gonna go?
I’d like to know,
I’ll follow if I can.
shells of all the homes that used to glow,
Are breaking into sand.
When the prairies are all burning and there’s smoke in the sky,
Looking closer than it is, but getting here in time.
When the wishbones are broken and you’re all out of luck
The passion is gone and you’re too tired to give an effort
Where are you gonna go?
I’d like to know,
I’ll follow if I can.
All the darkened roads
shells of all the homes that used to glow,
Are breaking into sand.
What color’s the sky? Is the air nice and dry?
Does the world look small like it does from up high?
Where am I in the grand scheme of things,
Can you see who’s pulling the strings?
How far am I, how far am I?
Where are you gonna go?
I’d like to know,
I’ll follow if I can.
shells of all the homes that used to glow,
Are breaking into sand.

We Could Surf Forever
02:05
|
|||
The sand is breaking at our feet
And we’ll be breaking curfew,
Standing on a beach where the waves are a little bit
Bigger than what we’re used to.
The tide is rolling in,
But the sun is setting off.
The people who were parked
Are gearing up and backing out.
This could be a dreamland,
But don’t just be a dream,
It’s like we’re on a movie set with
Perfect sound and lighting.
Everything is wrapping up and everyone is going home,
But we’re still in the writing,
The tide is rolling in,
But the sun is setting off.
The people who were parked
Are gearing up and backing out.
This could be a dreamland,
But don’t just be a dream
Currents keep me moving forward,
Foamy fingers rub my feet,
The wind is playing with my hair,
Salty kisses taste so sweet.
We could surf forever
Upon this passion tide,
All we've got to do is jump,
Come on and take a ride.
It feel like it's been minutes,
But I can't see the shoreline.
The glamor and the money and the problems with the country
Have faded with the sunlight.

A Thousand Things
04:05
|
|||
I saw a piece in the news about a beautiful girl,
Her dimensions are all we’re told they should be,
From what everyone’s said, I have to agree.
The science is there and I have to agree.
The city’s on fire with thoughts of police,
We all have our sons and they can all bleed.
Hatred won’t keep hatred off the streets.
And shouting all the louder won’t being peace.
Hatred won’t keep hatred off the streets.
And shouting all the louder won’t being peace.
Could you articulate what you’re saying is unfair?
I’ve read a thousand things on the signs up in the air.
It’s clear you care,
And have hours and hours to spare.
Here, there, everywhere.
I saw a piece in the news about a beautiful girl,
Her dimensions are all we’re told they should be,

Table Talk
02:58
|
|||
The water missed you and hit me instead,
Trying to balance a pot upon my head,
The holy fire and the dirt in the stream
Are licking at my feet.
The way you looked when I said we were through,
Was like “Og good.”, well I guess good for you,
You could have told me for the sake of time
That we were not alright.
Cuz I can’t see the tells,
I’m still new to this.
Where should I put my chips?
Is it still worth the risk?
If there’s no table talk you should give me a sign,
Aren’t we on the same side?
A couple couples have no place to hide,
If I’m out here, then who’s that inside?
I wish the storm would have hit months ago,
So by now I’d know.
Cuz I can’t see the tells,
I’m still new to this.
Where should I put my chips?
Is it still worth the risk?
If there’s no table talk you should give me a sign,
Aren’t we on the same side?
You make it look so easy,
But I still don’t know the rules.
When the game is over,
There’s no way you’ll lose.
Cuz I can’t see the tells,
I’m still new to this.
Where should I put my chips?
Is it still worth the risk?
If there’s no table talk you should give me a sign,
Cuz I can’t see the tells,
I’m still new to this.
Where should I put my chips?
Is it still worth the risk?
If there’s no table talk you should give me a sign,
Aren't we on the same side?
